For Cataract surgery: For private patients (self paying and medically insured patients), waiting list is not an issue. You may choose a mutually agreeable time with Mr Raj. This can be done within few weeks provided your investigations/eye measurements(biometry) is completed. There is usually no limits with regards to your vision to have cataract surgery in the private setting.
For NHS patients, the waiting time is usually about 3 months. There is however, a limit(cut off) and above this level of vision you may not be eligible to have cataract surgery in the NHS. This vision is (6/12 which is equal to reading 5 top lines on the usual Snellen visual acuity chart). This however, may not apply where cataract removal is needed to control your eye pressure/glaucoma.
For Glaucoma Surgery: The waiting time in the private setting is just a few weeks and you will be given an option to choose a date. In the NHS setting the waiting time is about 10 weeks (in the NHS); sometimes you may be offered surgery even earlier should there be a clinical indication/need to control your eye pressure sooner.
For Laser treatments ( SLT, Yag PI, Posterior capsulotomy): The waiting time for the private setting is just a few weeks and is done on a mutually agreeable date. The waiting time for the NHS setting is mostly up to 3 months. We try to achieve our target of offering treatments within the 18 weeks target in the NHS.
