Patient testimonials

Mr Raj has worked in various eye units in different part of the country and has had the opportunity and privilege to serve and provide quality eye care for a wide range of eye problems and a diverse group of patients. Whether it was his glaucoma and corneal patients in Aberdeen, the cataract patients in Truro and both his glaucoma and cataract patients in Birmingham & Dudley, the response has been extremely positive and he feels quite humbled with all these appreciative notes. Some others have kindly made donations to the eye charities in those eye units after they were fully satisfied with Mr Raj's treatment and care. Mr Raj is extremely grateful to all his patients and their kind relatives.

Here are some of the selected appreciation letters and testimonials.

“My name is LP and I am a patient under the care of Mr A Raj, consultant ophthalmic surgeon at the Russells Hall Hospital in Dudley.

I feel it is very important to give you my feedback on the treatment I am receiving under his care which can be summed up in one word. Outstanding.

I had surgery on my eye under another district and doctor, after which an obvious and very dangerous problem was left unattended despite voicing my concerns to the doctor at the time; the doctor did not detect it.

Once I came under the care of Mr Raj, he immediately spotted the problem and corrected it.

With the pressure and demands upon doctors today, many people struggle to find a truly caring professional who knows what he is doing and takes the time and patience to deliver an all round quality service. I am proud to say that such a doctor exists in Mr A Raj. He is a credit to the profession and should be a template for all doctors to measure up to.

After over 45 years of being a patient and a member of the nursing staff in and out of hospital, Mr A Raj has given me the faith in doctors again that was lost and I would like to applaud the establishment for employing such a genuine and talented professional practitioner. He has achieved the respect he deserves from not just myself but many others who have had the privilege to be seen by him.

I feel lucky to be one of those who have experienced his care and would recommend that Mr A Raj be honoured in some way for his commitment to good practice and valuing his patients while managing the very heavy demands placed on him of which he handles exceptionally well.

Thank you for your time and I hope that this letter goes some way in showing you he deserves to be granted your recognition on a scale very fitting to his ongoing accomplishments.”

I feel compelled to write to you to say what a fantastic service my mother A S (xx/x/xx) received from Mr Raj and his team at Russell's Hall Hospital.

Mr Raj has worked wonders on both of my Mom's eyes. He has carried out cataract and trabecular surgery, resulting in near perfect intra ocular pressures and the most amazing lens prescription. My Mom has gone from having such a strong prescription to having the ophthalmologist inform her that she  doesn't even need eye correction in order to drive! All that is required now is a relatively weak reading lens. Mr Raj has truly worked wonders on my Mom's eyes. Even the ophthalmologist was surprised at the transformation.

And Mr Raj has also given her a much needed boost in confidence by giving her "new eyes", for which all of my family will be eternally grateful.

My family and I wish the Board to know that one of the greatest human beings that we have ever met is performing miracles at your (and our) hospital. And not only is he capable of transforming people's lives with the gift of sight, he is the most perfect gentleman, Mr Raj has only ever treated my Mom with the utmost courtesy and respect.

Although I have thanked Mr Raj personally (when attending with my Mom) for all he has done, could you please pass on a copy of this email to him.

Thank you very much.

Yours sincerely,

C S and family.

2. Letter from A S

Dear Mr Raj,

I have today been to my eyes tested as you asked me to and felt I must write to you. The results are fantastic. How a person who was high myopic with glasses -12.50 and -12.75 can go to just needing +2.75 reading glasses is just wonderful and pressures were 12/13 too. Thank you so much for this and I really appreciate what you have done for me, it will certainly change my life. I had no problems at all after both operations (cataract surgery + IOL + Trabeculotomy using KDB blades) done on 11th July and 12th September.

I no longer believe in fairies but I do believe in miracles as I think that is what you have performed on me. I will send a copy of this letter to Diane Wake ( CEO) to let her know what a brilliant person is working in the hospital.

I look forward to seeing you at my next appointment.

From Mrs BG, Dudley

From Mr BS, Dudley (to Mr Raj & his team)

Thank you all for your 5 star services. I was full of apprehension, fear and misgivings. Your team’s approach of encouragement, enthusiasm and professionalism made me feel ‘SPECIAL’. I and my family are grateful and full of admiration. My vision is ACE!

5.

Mr TC

" Dear Mr Raj, I would like to thank you and your team for doing my cataract operation. Before the surgery I was only able to read a car number-plate at 60 feet. Now I am able to read one at 120 feet and with my new distance glasses much further. My optician says my eye-sight is better now than it was in 1995 when he first tested me”

Mrs MM

To Mr Raj and his Friday team

“My husband was quite unsure of what to expect on Friday- re: his cataract operation. However, he appreciated the professionalism with which the procedure was carried out and for this- please accept my thanks. The resulting vision he now experiences has made him think seriously about having the other eye operated on when this is offered.

Please accept my thanks for making this an experience that has had a very positive outcome” MM

From Mrs SB

" Dear Mr Raj,

Thank you so much for the treatment my daughter, SB received from your team last week. As you know she was under your care following an accident where she sustained trauma that pierced her eye. We presented at A&E at around 9pm and despite a three and a half hour waiting time being displayed we were through and in front of Dr H at A&E within 10 minutes. Dr H was very efficient and indeed referred us on to your team as he identified there was an injury that needed your specialist attention. I found out later that he had recently worked with you and had obviously learned an awful lot from you as he really knew his job.

We were seen by yourself and your team as you were called in to assess and treat S who was very distressed by what had happened. I was completely devastated by the news she had to go to theatre to repair her eye but your explanation and constant reassurance was brilliant and made a horrific experience far more bearable.

She has continued to receive excellent care, with the hole in her eye being stitched and we really looked forward to the daily visits to you as we knew you were doing a fantastic job of repairing her eye. The ongoing support and reassurance from you and your team until her discharge on Friday was fantastic and I know we will get the best out patient care from you all.

I will be eternally grateful for what you did and cannot thank you enough. S will never forget you all.

Fond regards

SB "

From Mr GR

“Dear Mr Raj,

The NHS does not always receive a good press, but during my lengthy treatment at the eye clinic, I wish to register my complete satisfaction with the service I have received.

To the extent I can judge such things; I have to say that I am very impressed with your competence. As an academic myself I noticed your methodological approach at once in gradually eliminating various possibilities before settling on a diagnosis that has been proved to be correct.

In order to arrive at that conclusion you wanted, despite an obviously heavy schedule in an extremely busy clinic, to see me every three days. On each occasion you gave me a very thorough examination. You refused to be hurried: I recall how, during an early-evening appointment, you once received a phone call from somebody who had expected you to have finished for the day judging by your reply: ‘I will be with you shortly’. But, you admirably and conscientiously, you continued your examination at great length.

You always kept me thoroughly informed for the steps in the treatment and of the possible medicines, including their pros and cons and why you chose one over another.

For a doctor you have the very best combination of virtues: intelligence, competence and conscientiousness. If the NHS can provide doctors of your calibre, we should perhaps focus more on this and less on other matters.

Thank you very much, Mr Raj. I am very grateful to you.

Yours faithfully: GR"
